In mid-October, the American Parkinson Disease Association’s Massachusetts chapter (APDA MA) hosted a webinar on sleep issues in Parkinson’s disease (PD). The webinar featured movement disorder specialist Dr. Okeanis Vaou who described common sleep disorders in PD and how to treat them. Sleep disorders are present in about 66-99% of people with PD.

“Fatigue in PD”- Webinar Notes
In mid-June, the PMD Alliance hosted a webinar on fatigue in Parkinson’s Disease (PD). The webinar featured movement disorder specialist Dr. Joseph Friedman, who discussed the difference between fatigue and sleepiness, the kinds of fatigue, and how to measure and treat it. Fifty percent of people with PD will rate fatigue as one of their worst symptoms, and one-third of PD patients rate fatigue as their single worst symptom. It is the most important reason cited for medical disability insurance claims by PD patients in the US.

The coping strategies were suggested by speech language pathologist Jamie Russell. We took notes during the webinar and shared them here.

The webinar featured movement disorder specialist Dr. Carlie Tanner, with the University of California San Francisco. The webinar consisted of a 15 minute presentation and a 45 minute question and answer session, where she detailed specific risk factors based on audience interest.
