COVID-19 and Parkinson’s Disease – the latest news (APDA)

January 12, 2021 By Parkinson's Community Help

The American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) published an update with the latest news about the COVID-19 and Parkinson’s Disease (PD).  The update includes information about the COVID-19 vaccine and PD.

From the American Parkinson Disease Association, January 11, 2021

COVID-19 still presents many challenges across the country and the world, and while the approval of multiple vaccines is a very exciting development, it likely brings many questions and concerns to mind for all of you in our Parkinson’s disease (PD) community.

APDA is here with the latest COVID-19 information to help you feel informed and supported:

Vaccine Questions: How do the new COVID-19 vaccines work?  When can I get a vaccine? Are there any reasons why a person with PD should not get a COVID-19 vaccine? These are just a few of the recent questions we’ve received. Check out our answers to these questions and more, and if you have a question of your own that you don’t see answered here you can submit it any time to our Ask A Doctor portal.

COVID-19 Updates: The news of the COVID-19 virus is constantly evolving, so in addition to answering your questions, we also frequently update the information on our COVID-19 overview page where you can learn more about specific concerns related to PD and the coronavirus.

What about COVID-19 research? Since the pandemic began, physicians and scientists with expertise in PD have been hard at work trying to determine how COVID-19 may or may not affect people with PD. They have gathered their preliminary data on the experience of people with PD with COVID-19 and we have summarized their findings for you.

Stuck at home? It can be challenging to stay motivated and feel connected while staying safe at home. APDA has a wealth of virtual events that you can participate in right from your living room. Join us for a fitness class, or upcoming live Q&A session! We also have many archived programs that you can view at any time in our Educational Video Library and Webinar Series.  A few upcoming programs you won’t want to miss:

You can also reach out via our APDA helpline at (800-223-2732). And if you have friends or family who might benefit from this information, please consider sharing it with them.
