Stanford Medicine recently published an article about fascinating research into using the biological age of organs (a measure of our physiological condition) to understand the likelihood of developing age-related disorders, such as heart disease, kidney disease, and Alzheimer’s disease.
“With this [blood-based] indicator, we can assess the age of an organ today and predict the odds of your getting a disease associated with that organ 10 years later,” said Tony Wyss-Coray, PhD, director of the Knight Initiative for Brain Resilience at Stanford. According to the article, “the biological age of one organ — the brain — plays an outsized role in determining how long you have left to live, Wyss-Coray said.”
