The American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) has launched a five-part training course for mental health practitioners who work with individuals and families affected by Parkinson’s. This comprehensive introduction to PD covers symptoms, disease progression, psychosocial impacts, and the complex relationship between PD and mental health. The PD community can encourage mental health professionals to register for the course, which begins on July 22, 2026.

The course will provide valuable insights into the mental and emotional experiences of people with Parkinson’s disease, as well as the unique needs of care partners. Each session will offer practical knowledge and strategies to help you better understand this population, strengthen your clinical skills, and provide more compassionate, informed support.

The topic for session one, beginning on July 22, is Understanding PD: A Foundation for Mental Health Practitioners.

Additional sessions will be released monthly. Keep an eye out for Session Two – Mental Health & PD, available on August 26.
