Stanford American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) Information & Referral Center hosted our second “Stanford PD research extravaganza” in September 2026. Movement disorder specialist Dr. Hengameh Zahed described two multi-site phase III clinical trials open to those with PD — exPDite-2 and PARAISO. Plus several observational studies were detailed. Eva Müller-Oehring, PhD, Stanford Neurology, presented a new study on sleep and cognition, open to those who have had PD for two or more years. A clinical research coordinator talked about the NBM study which is open to those with PD who want deep brain stimulation surgery. Other observational studies are open to those with PD and healthy controls. Yasmine Kehnemouyi, Stanford Bioengineering PhD candidate, spoke about the “EGG (electrogastrogram) study” and the “PhD study” in which participants wear two devices, an EGG (electrogastrogram) and a CGM (continuous glucose monitor). Clinical research coordinators talked about the NIH study of the gut-brain connection, and the QDG study of disease monitoring.
