Are you feeling apathetic? – Webinar notes

Recently, ParkinsonTV offered a webinar on apathy in Parkinson’s disease, featuring a panel of speakers including two movement disorder specialists, a person with PD, and her wife, followed by a longer discussion with neurologist Mindy Bixby from Scripps Clinic.  They discussed what apathy means and how it can be confused with depression, as well as some tips and strategies for living with apathy.  We at Stanford Parkinson’s Community Outreach listened to the webinar and are sharing our notes.

Advanced Therapies for Parkinson’s Disease – Webinar notes

In late January, the Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario offered a webinar on Advanced Therapies for Parkinson’s Disease (PD), featuring speaker Devin Hall, MD. She gave an overview of treatments that sometimes used for later-stage PD, such as Deep Brain Stimulation, apomorphine injections, and levodopa intestinal gel (Duopa), discussing their benefits and drawbacks. We at Stanford Parkinson’s Community Outreach listened to the webinar and are sharing our notes.

Eating Well with PD – Webinar notes

The Michael J. Fox Foundation offered a webinar on Eating Well with Parkinson’s Disease, featuring a panel of speakers including a doctor, a patient with PD, and two nutritionists. They discussed what makes up a “healthy” diet, what specific diet plans are out there, how to foster a healthy diet in everyday living, ways to adjust diet to accommodate medications and symptoms, and the role of vitamins and supplements. We at Stanford Parkinson’s Community Outreach listened to the webinar and are sharing our notes.

The Parkinson’s Institute’s medical director discussed the gut-brain connection — meeting notes

The Palo Alto Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease support group’s January 2020 meeting featured the medical director from the Parkinson’s Institute and Clinical Center, Dr. Kristin Andruska. She discussed what we currently understand about the gut-brain connection and genetic testing for PD. We at Stanford Parkinson’s Community Outreach attended the meeting and are sharing our notes.

An international panel discusses exercise and PD – webinar notes

The Cure Parkinson’s Trust, in the United Kingdom, hosted a panel webinar discussion on Exercise in Parkinson’s disease (PD) on January 8th, 2020.
