Webinar Notes – Navigating the Road Ahead: Understanding Driving and Parkinson’s

During a recent Parkinson’s Foundation webinar Harvard’s Margaret O’Connor, PhD, an expert in driving assessments, spoke on the subject of driving and Parkinson’s. While the mechanical skill of driving (procedural memory) often holds up well, PD can impact the complex cognitive and physical abilities needed for safe driving.

One of the most powerful points Dr. O’Connor made was the importance of getting an objective evaluation rather than relying on guesswork or difficult family conversations alone.

Brain Support Network and Stanford’s Movement Disorders Center were pleased to present Stanford’s Carla Abdelnour, MD, speaking on “Lewy Body Dementia: Future Directions,” on April 17, 2025.  Dr. Abdelnour’s talk focused on recent research findings and future research that may affect treatment of those with LBD.  She provided a short overview of Lewy body dementia (LBD), which is an umbrella term that includes Parkinson’s Disease Dementia and Dementia with Lewy Bodies.

The Many Forms of Carbidopa/Levodopa – Webinar Notes

In January, movement disorder specialist Eleni Okeanis Vaou, MD, was the guest speaker for an episode of Dr. Gilbert Hosts on the different formulations of carbidopa/levodopa available. Carbidopa/levodopa continues to be the gold standard of treatment for the motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and can be very effective in controlling the stiffness and slowness that are characteristic of PD. Knowing the differences between the different formulations and understanding why you are prescribed a specific formulation over another can be confusing. With new and more formulations of carbidopa/levodopa available, physicians can offer more personalized treatment approaches.
