APDA hosting a FREE Virtual Parkinson’s Education Conference Feb. 15-16, 2023

The two-day APDA Virtual Parkinson’s Conference: Educate, Empower, Engage will be geared towards people with Parkinson’s disease, their care partners and family members and will feature expert presentations, breakout sessions, panel discussions, and more. The program will run from 9am-12:40pm PT on February 15th, and from 9am-12:30pm PT on February 16th.

WaPo: Balance training can help you avoid falls, stay steady on your feet

Most people don’t think about their balance until they take a spill. But that’s common: One in 4 adults 65 and older falls each year. Twenty percent of those spills result in serious injury, such as a hip fracture or head injury. The good news? You can reduce your risk of falling with what experts call balance training.

“Neurogenic Orthostatic Hypotension (nOH) and Parkinson’s” – Webinar notes

In mid-November the Davis Phinney Foundation hosted a webinar on Neurogenic Orthostatic Hypotension (nOH), or low blood pressure due to dysfunctioning of the autonomic nervous system, which is commonly experienced by people with Parkinson’s Disease, Lewy Body Dementia, and multiple system atrophy (MSA).

The speaker, movement disorders specialist Salima Brillman, explained what nOH is and shared lifestyle changes and medication treatments. Dr. Brillman answered questions from the moderator and listeners throughout the webinar. Read more to learn what Dr. Brillman emphasized.
