“Bladder Issues (in MSA)” – Lecture Notes (relevant to Parkinson’s)

The Multiple System Atrophy Coalition hosted a two-day conference in late October on various aspects of MSA, which is a disorder similar to Parkinson’s disease (PD). MSA is called an atypical parkinsonism disorder. 

One of the talks, presented by Dr. Michael Guralnick, a urologist at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, focused on urinary frequency, urgency, and incontinence. These are bladder symptoms of both MSA and PD.

“Sleep in Parkinson’s” – Lecture Notes

The Parkinson Association of Northern California (PANC) hosted a virtual conference on Parkinson’s disease (PD) in late October. Erica Byrd, MD, movement disorder specialist at Sutter Roseville, spoke about sleep and PD. Dr. Byrd discussed several sleep problems that can occur in PD patients, including excessive daytime somnolence, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, insomnia, and REM sleep behavior disorder. She also addressed treatment for these problems.

At the November PD Active Forum, Jaimie Henderson, MD, neurosurgeon from Stanford University will speak on “Surgical Options for PD: DBS and Beyond.”  He will address various surgical alternatives for Parkinson’s, including deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery.  PD Active requests a $10 contribution. “Dizziness and Parkinson’s” – Webinar Notes

Dizziness is a commonly reported symptom by people with Parkinson’s disease (PD). It is important to determine the source in order to treat the dizziness. In this October webinar hosted by Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery (PWR!), Shelley Hockensmith, a physical therapist and neurologic specialist, provides information about different types and sources of dizziness, the inner ear’s role in balance, and physical therapy’s role using vestibular rehabilitation.
