New APDA “Connecting Through Art” program to begin October 11, San Francisco

The American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) is piloting a new program for people with Parkinson’s, “Connecting Through Art,” on Friday, October 11. With instruction from the Art Cart, the session will be focused on providing those living with Parkinson’s the space and ability to express feelings, emotions, and daily concerns through the activities of drawing and painting. The session is free, but advance registration is required.

Adaptive Driving Workshop scheduled on Thursday, October 3, 10:30-11:30am, Stanford

This workshop will cover the referral process for a driving evaluation; identify the needs for adaptive driving controls; types of adaptive controls- mechanical vs electronic; costs associated with installing these adaptations; DMV requirements, and outline time frames associated with achieving competency for using adaptive controls.  The workshop will be held at the Stanford Neuroscience Health Center.  The program is free but advance registration is required.

Stanford Neurosurgeon to discuss what to do when PD medications stop working. Palo Alto, September 19

Casey Halpern, Neurosurgeon, Stanford Medicine, will discuss “Parkinson’s Disease: What to Do when the Meds Stop Working,” at the Stanford Quarterly Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) support group on Thursday, September 19, from 11:00-12:45 at the Wellness Room, Neuroscience Health Center.
