Stanford’s Movement Disorders Center and Brain Support Network are pleased to present Carla Abdelnour, MD, speaking on Lewy Body Dementia: Future Directions, on Thursday, April 17, 1pm PT.  Dr. Abdelnour’s talk will focus on recent research findings and future research that may affect treatment of those with LBD.  She will provide a short overview of Lewy body dementia (LBD), which is an umbrella term that includes Parkinson’s Disease Dementia and Dementia with Lewy Bodies.

More personalized, precise treatment for Parkinson’s patients on ’90 Seconds with Lisa Kim’

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a new technology that could offer more effective treatment for millions of people suffering from Parkinson’s disease. Approval of the new device is the result of Stanford-led research into adaptive deep brain stimulation. Helen Bronte-Stewart, MD, who headed the international study, explains how it could provide longer-lasting benefits of any current treatment.

Webinar Notes: Understanding Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP)

On August 6 PMD Alliance hosted a webinar on Understanding Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). PSP is a neurodegenerative disease that can mimic Parkinson’s, but PSP is a distinct diagnosis with its own features and treatments. Amazingly, there are seven subtypes of PSP!

Movement disorders specialist, David Shprecher, DO, gave an overview of symptoms, the diagnostic process, complications of PSP, as well as current treatment options and the importance of participating in clinical trials (including brain donation) to advance understanding of PSP and develop new treatment options.
