In December 2025, The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) hosted a panel discussion on stress and Parkinson’s disease (PD). The panel tackled how stress affects Parkinson’s symptoms and why stress happens. They explained the difference between acute stress (normal and temporary) and chronic stress (which causes real problems), and walked through the brain mechanisms that make symptoms worse when someone is stressed. Science Friday: Teasing Apart The Causes And Early Signs Of Parkinson’s

Each year, around 90,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with Parkinson’s, a neurodegenerative disease that can cause tremors and affect cognition. Scientists are working to identify some of the earliest signs of the disease, and to figure out how we might test for—and treat—Parkinson’s in the future.

Stanford Specialist Speaking on Gut-Brain in PD at Virtual Palo Alto Support Group Meeting, February 11, 2:30pm

Join our Palo Alto Parkinson’s Support Group meeting on Wednesday, February 11, 2:30pm, as we host Dr. Bianca Palushaj, Stanford movement disorder specialist.  Her topic is “Rethinking the Gut in Parkinson’s Disease.”  Dr. Palushaj will give an overview of the microbiome.  She will discuss what she and Stanford colleagues have learned in their research of those with PD and healthy household members.  If you live in Northern or Central California, we welcome you.

World-renowned Parkinson’s disease expert Dr. Ray Dorsey is on a national book tour, sharing the science, stories, and urgency behind “The Parkinson’s Plan,” his new bestseller.  Luckily, we have lined him up for two events on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 in our local area — Belmont Library (10:10am) and Little House in Menlo Park (2:30pm).  Dr. Dorsey will detail some of the 25 steps necessary to lower your risk of developing Parkinson’s and, if you have PD, slowing decline.  He will be in conversation with Stanford’s APDA Information & Referral Center Coordinator Robin Riddle.  Read more about Dr. Dorsey’s talk and join us!
