Navigating a new Parkinson’s diagnosis – Webinar notes

In late May, the Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) offered a webinar on navigating a new Parkinson’s disease (PD) diagnosis, featuring a panel of speakers including a movement disorders specialist and individuals who have PD. They discussed common questions that one may have after a new PD diagnosis, how to get the best care, considerations around starting medication, and when to disclose the diagnosis to others. There was a question and answer session as well. Depression and Parkinson’s disease – Webinar notes

In mid-May, the Parkinson Society of British Columbia offered a webinar on depression and Parkinson’s disease (PD), featuring Dr. Fidel Vila-Rodriguez. He discussed the symptoms and treatment options for depression, as well as the state of research into depression and PD, briefly touching on experimental forms of neurostimulation to address depression. Status of research in PD: Is there hope? – Webinar notes

In early June, Stanford Parkinson’s Community Outreach offered a webinar on the current status of research on PD, featuring Brent Bluett, DO, a movement disorders specialist at Stanford. He covered research efforts so far in PD, what is in the near-term and long-term pipelines for PD treatment, and how people can learn more and get involved in research. Sleep and Parkinson’s – Webinar notes

In mid-May, the Davis Phinney Foundation offered a webinar on sleep and Parkinson’s disease (PD), featuring Dr. Ronald Postuma, a movement disorders specialist in Canada. He discussed the types of sleep issues commonly seen in PD and measures that can help to mitigate them. Covid-19 & PD: Lessons from the frontlines – Webinar notes

In mid-May, the Parkinson’s Foundation hosted a Facebook Live presentation answering questions on Covid-19 and Parkinson’s disease (PD). The speakers included two movement disorders neurologists: Dr. Alessandro Di Rocco and Dr. Ritesh Ramdhani. They discussed what they have learned so far as movement disorders specialists practicing in New York on the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic, in terms of risks, symptoms, and specific concerns for those with PD, and answered audience questions.
