“Understanding Parkinson’s: Tips for Disease Management”

Program: Parkinson’s disease is the second-most common neurodegenerative illness after Alzheimer’s disease. With the burgeoning aging population, it is imperative that social workers, nurses, case managers and discharge planners appreciate the nuances of this chronic illness so they can advocate for the appropriate management of their Parkinson’s patients. The heterogeneity of the Parkinson’s population necessitates keen assessment skills in order to address individual differences in disease presentation and devise the best management plan. This web seminar will review the basics of Parkinson’s disease and the atypical Parkinsonism, pharmacological and surgical treatment strategies, the role of the allied team, the disease trajectory and the need for a comprehensive, individualized, management plan.

Presenter: Becky Dunlop, RN, BSN, Center of Excellence Coordinator, Johns Hopkins Medicine Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center

Presented by: American Society on Aging and Right at Home
