March 3, 2017 By Parkinson's Community Help

text_image.img.full.highLeanel Liwanag, a technologist with the Stanford Balance Lab, will be demonstrating Parkinson’s-specific exercises at the Palo Alto Parkinson’s Support Group meeting on Wednesday, March 8th, 2-3:30pm, at Avenidas.  She will involve the audience in demonstrations of PWR!, Rock Steady Boxing, and other exercises designed specifically for those with Parkinson’s.  The exercises address movement, cognition, and speech.  This event is free and open to the public. No need to RSVP.

In addition to Ms. Liwanag, Yue Whelchel will be demonstrating PD-specific exercises during the meeting.  Ms. Whelchel is a PD exercise instructor with the Palo Alto YMCA.  She teaches weekly classes at the Palo Alto YMCA and at Avenidas Senior Center.

Many of the exercises can be done standing or seated.  Chairs will be provided along with water.  We will be using small water bottles as part of the exercise demonstration.

The Palo Alto Parkinson’s support group meeting is open to anyone in the community.  The meeting is held in the dining room at the Avenidas Senior Center in downtown Palo Alto at 450 Bryant St.
