In late February 2020, the Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) offered a webinar on sex, love, and Parkinson’s disease (PD). The panel of speakers included a person with PD, a professor of geriatrics, and a certified sex therapist. They discussed how PD can impact sexual function; the different sexual changes that men and women experience; how medications can impact sex; and strategies and treatments for sexual disfunction in PD. On January 6, the Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) hosted a webinar called “Ask Us Anything,” with members of their leadership available to answer questions about Parkinson’s disease. They tackled questions that are frequently asked, such as how close scientists are to a cure for PD, as well as more specific inquiries, such as the purpose of a DaTscan or the use of mannitol. … Full Story>APDA’s Free Online PD Training for Fitness Professionals Can Help Families Too
We at the Stanford APDA (American Parkinson Disease Association) Information & Referral Center recently explored a free online training available from the APDA for fitness professionals to learn more about working with patients who have Parkinson’s disease (PD). Exercise is essential for those living with PD, but not everyone has access to a personal trainer or wellness coach who is already experienced with the disease. This one- to two-hour training can help fitness professionals become familiar with the basic symptoms of PD; understand the benefits clients can receive from exercise; put together useful, appropriate exercise programs at different stages of the disease; and ensure client safety during exercise. Information in the training can also be helpful for those working out on their own or with a caregiver.

On September 11, the Davis Phinney Foundation presented a webinar entitled, “Psychiatric and Cognitive Complications in Parkinson’s,” with Dr. Daniel Weintraub, a psychiatrist at UPenn. Psychiatric complications such as delusions and hallucinations, and cognitive complications such as mild cognitive impairment and dementia, can impact a person with Parkinson’s quality of life.
