“Gut-Brain & Parkinson’s Disease” – Notes from Stanford Seminar, January 10, 2026

On January 10, 2026, Stanford Medicine hosted a seminar on “Gut-Brain & Parkinson’s Disease”, exploring how the gastrointestinal tract may hold the key to both the origin and early detection of the disease.  This seminar shared the latest between bioengineering and clinical neurology, presenting a compelling case for the “Body-First” hypothesis—the idea that Parkinson’s pathology may begin in the gut due to environmental triggers before reaching the brain.  The featured Stanford speakers in different fields included movement disorder neurologists Dr. Kathleen Poston and Dr. Bianca Palushaj, neurogastroenterologist Dr. Leila Neshatian, and researcher Yasmine Kehnemouyi, PhD candidate, and ended with a panel moderated by bioengineer Dr. Todd Coleman.   These are notes from the seminar.

“The Gut-Brain in Parkinson’s Disease,” Seminar, January 10, 2026, at Stanford or Virtual – Register now

The Stanford Medicine Poston Research Laboratory is co-hosting a seminar for Individuals living with Parkinson’s Disease and anyone else interested in exploring the gut-brain relationship in this disease. This hybrid seminar – virtual and in-person on Stanford campus – runs from 3-5:30pm PT on Saturday, January 10, 2026, and includes free parking, food, and drinks for in-person attendees.

Stanford’s Connecting Through Art (CTA) program now has two locations

The Stanford APDA (American Parkinson Disease Association) Information & Referral Center’s Connecting Through Art (CTA) program has met for the last several years in Cupertino.  As of October 2025, we are partnering with PD Active to bring the program to the East Bay.  This creative arts program that offers people with PD the space and ability to express feelings, emotions, and daily concerns through drawing and painting.  Care partners are welcome.  In even-numbered months we will meet in Berkeley and in odd-numbered months we will meet in Cupertino.  Generally, we will gather on the second Saturday of each month, 10:30am-12pm, though the date may change according to the instructor’s schedule.
